Tensnake & Flight Facilities @SRB Brooklyn, 3.30.13

German dance music genius Tensnake has gifted us with dozens of brilliant remixes as well as some great tracks of his own, like 2010’s ‘Coma Cat‘ and most recently his brilliant 90’s house track ‘Mainline’. He’s released his own mixtapes for Resident Advisor, and even has his own Defected In the House mixtape, amongst other house music legends like Dimitri from Paris and Danny Krivit. He is also one of the latest to put out an for BBC Radio 1, which you can listen to below. In summary, the guy is pretty darn talented – and as luck should have it, he will be headlining at Srb Brooklyn on Saturday, March 30th with OXD favorite Flight Facilities.

Australian producers and Future Classic labelmates Flight Facilities hooked us with their 2010 single ‘Crave You‘, followed by their brilliant homage to the 70’s in 2011’s ‘Foreign Language’. They’ve kept busy making mixtapes, the occasional single and of course remixing songs from artists like Miike Snow, Cut Copy, Holy Ghost! and even Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.

Tensnake and Flight Facilities will be joined by Fixed NYC‘s resident DJs JDH and Dave P, who always do a fantastic job warming up the dance floor. Together all of these DJs are sure to curate an amazing night of dancing and great house and disco music. Don’t miss it!

Kim Ann Foxman: ‘Return It’

New York-based producer Kim Ann Foxman has a special place in our hearts. Though it is not very common to see female producers in the dance music world, Kim’s sheer brilliance shows she’s a force to be reckoned with.

After spending years as one of the key members of Hercules & Love Affair (alongside Andy Butler), Kim started a solo career which has proven solid and promising. She often takes over the decks in NYC, at both straight and gay clubs. Her latest release, Return It/Hypnotic Dance, is out now on Needwant Records, a label that has been flawlessly curating some of our favorite music over the past few years. ‘Return It’ takes on a smooth acid house style with an ethereal touch, and the accompanying music video is a beautiful piece. Needless to say, Kim’s vocals are always a pleasure to the ears.

Maxxi Soundsystem @Le Poisson Rouge, 8.18.12

Originally from Brighton, UK, Sam Watts has been signing some amazing work under the codename Maxxi Soundsystem. His first hit, ‘Criticize,’ showed the world his skills in the house music realm, and since then he has released several original tracks and remixes for artists such as Hercules & Love Affair and Kasper Bjørke.

Maxxi Soundsystem’s powerful remixes for The 2 Bears and Bonar Bradberry were also featured in two of our favorite recent compilations, Future Disco Presents Poolside Sounds and Future Disco Vol. 5: Downtown Express, both released through Needwant Records. In addition, his outstanding rework for Parallel Dance Ensemble’s ‘Shopping Cart’ has been a constant play in some renowned DJ sets, including Aeroplane and Tensnake.

On Saturday, August 18th, Maxxi Soundsystem will be performing at Le Poisson Rouge. Another great Summer dance party for us to join in and celebrate the heat and exceptional house music.

Future Disco Presents: Poolside Sounds

Since 2009, Future Disco has been at the forefront of the nu-disco sound. Sharing a similar mindset to OXD, Future Disco seeks out the newest and best in house music and compiles them into masterfully mixed albums. The second volume of the Future Disco compilations won the iTunes 2009 Dance Album of the Year award. They also throw parties across Europe, attracting big-name DJs like Jacques Renault, Maxxi Soundsystem, and Greg Wilson.

Not allowing themselves to be a one-trick pony, Future Disco has released Poolside Sounds, a deep house mix of some familiar artists with a distinct laid back and sexy vibe. Daytime disco, as some would call it, is becoming more prolific with artists recognizing the importance of a day/night “versatility” to their music. The sleek sounds from this mix conjure memories of brilliant summer days, with tracks from artists like The Rapture, Crazy P and Classixx.

A sampler of the compilation is below, and the whole thing is available now on Needwant Recordings. This mix will definitely be cued up on our iPods for those relaxed summer days.

Future Disco Vol. 5: Downtown Express Compilation

After releasing our favorite compilation of 2011, ‘Future Disco Vol. 4: Neon Nights‘, british label Needwant Records set a very high standard for any upcoming releases under their name. So we got really excited when they announced a new edition of this series for 2012. After a first try we could already tell this is going to be one of our Summer soundtracks. Check out the mini-mix with some of the best tracks below.

The groovy must-haves for this year are all there, with tracks from Crazy P, Tensnake, Mario Basanov, and more. Get your copy before it’s too hot out.
