Full Moon Festival with Yacht, Sneaky Soundsystem, Gigamesh & Tesla Boy

Though the end of Summer is rapidly approaching, NYC still sees no hint of it cooling down. On August 30th, the Full Moon festival will take place at Beekman Beach Club, celebrating some fantastic music acts. Described as an immersive experience of the senses, the festival will be featuring performances by Yacht, Sneaky Soundsystem, Gigamesh, Tesla Boy and DJs JDH & Dave P from Fixed. We would normally recommend you to see any of these acts at their individual gigs, but to have them all together in one night is like a dream come true.

YACHT was originally formed by Portland-based Jona Bechtolt. With the addition of Claire L. Evans and their first release on DFA Records in 2008, the duo crafted a great mix of avant-garde electronic music and rock that sky-rocketed them to notoriety. Their latest album, Shangri-La, was released last year also on DFA Records. Below is one of the highlights of their 2008 album, See Mystery Lights.

Coming from Sydney, another duo that has made it into our hearts (and playlists) is Sneaky Soundsystem. Their 2011 album From Here To Nowhere is an incredible example of how pop and house music can live together—no need to fight against each other. Their songs are catchy and fun, yet elaborate and very sophisticated.

We have talked about Gigamesh before many times, and during this Summer we gathered people to see him take over the decks at Hudson Terrace. We will never get enough of this guy and it will be lovely see check him out once more amongst such great acts.

The Russian synth-pop band Tesla Boy is also making an appearance and will be performing their sweet tunes from their debut album, Modern Thrills. They are in NYC for the first time ever for a series of gigs and we stoked to see these guys live.

Finally, Grandlife has prepared a great mix by Air Zaïre with songs from all four performers. You can listen and download it while we anxiously wait for next Thursday.

Gigamesh @Hudson Terrace, 6.7.12

Gigamesh is the alter-ego of American producer Matt Masurka, who has been pleasing us with a constant stream of great tunes and remixes that range from nu-disco to synth-pop and electro. On Thursday, June 7th, Gigamesh will be turning the tables at Hudson Terrace and we will definitely be there to check it out.

Just this past week, Gigamesh released his second EP, All My Life, on French label Kitsuné. Watch below the video for ‘Your Body,’ the third track out of this new work, as well as a preview of his new EP.

All My Life is a follow up to his 2011 self-titled EP, which included one of OXD’s favorite tracks last year, ‘When You’re Dancing.’ Gigamesh has also remixed Ladyhawke’s latest single, ‘Sunday Drive,’ and has reworked tracks for names such as Foster The People, Classixx, and Katy B. Another OXD favorite is his remix of Citizens!’ ‘True Romance,’ which can be heard below.

Don’t forget to RSVP for free entrance to Hudson Terrance until midnight.

Kitsuné America Compilation

Kitsuné is the reason why we know—and love—a disproportionately large number of French bands and DJs. The French record label and fashion business was created in 2002 by French DJ Gildas Loaëc (former member of the Daft Punk team), Japanese architect Masaya Kuroki and British design firm Åbäke. Their goal was to combine music and fashion, which coexist obsessively in places like Tokyo, Paris and, of course, New York (curiosity: Kitsuné means “fox” in Japanese.)

The record label has released dozens of compilations since then, promoting (mostly European) bands and producers that became some of our favorites: Yelle, Simian Mobile Disco, Housse de Racket, Two Door Cinema Club and Monarchy, just to name a few. Now Kitsuné is setting its sights in the States, and just recently opened its first store in New York—at the Nomad Hotel, on Broadway and 28th Street. And yesterday the label released a new compilation dedicated exclusively to new American bands and DJs, named Kitsuné America.

St. Lucia (‘Before the Dive’), Childish Gambino (with an amazing remix by Them Jeans for ‘Heartbeat’), Gigamesh (‘Your Body’), Oliver (‘Walk With Me’) and Computer Magic (‘Help Me’) are some the chosen names for Kitsuné America. As usual, Kitsuné has crafted a mixture of electro pop and dance rock that is just flawless. But first and foremost, its compilations are a great window into what’s going on in the electronic music scene on both sides of the Atlantic. So keep an eye out for these guys.

The Kitsuné empire also promotes super fun parties in New York a couple of times a year. The next edition will be in honor of Kitsuné America, on May 31st, when they will celebrate the release of their brand new compilation. More info to come—stay tuned. In the meanwhile, we can enjoy some fun new tunes.
