Chris Malinchak @Glasslands Gallery, 1.15.13

Chris Malinchak, the most prolific and exciting member of the French Express collective needs no introduction as he has become somewhat of a household name around these parts. He’ll be spinning at Glasslands Gallery this Friday and naturally, we’re bringing a crew of disco-loving gay boys along with us to dance the night away. Invite some friends and join in on the fun as we experience the mastery that created one of last year’s most iconic house tracks: ‘So Good to Me.’

Joining Malinchak will be Speakerbot, the alias of New Jersey-based Aashish Bansal, as well as resident FIXED DJ, JDH. Speakerbot has been on our radar for a while now, and we’re excited to finally check out his blend of deep house, disco, and funk tunes. Below is one of his recent Nu Disco sets to give you an idea of what his sound is like. Speakerbot is the opening DJ so make sure to come early!

French Express Tour @Brooklyn Bowl, 12.7.12

If you have either been reading our weekly Towleroad column, The OXD Mirror, or been to our previous events, then you know we are huge fans of French Express, the Perseus-founded label that prides itself on “cultivating the sound of feel good.” Naturally, we were ecstatic to find out that their collective of artists will be on tour at Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Bowl next month. We gathered at Le Bain for Moon Boots back in July, and this time he’s joined by label-mates Chris Malinchak and Jonas Rathsman, so get ready to Occupy The Disco. Check out more information on the artists below, and make sure to RSVP on our Facebook Event page so we know to look out for you.

Jonas Rathsman made a huge impact on the house music scene when French Express released ‘Since I Don’t Have You,’ a fierce house track that relies heavily on falsetto vocals and production reminiscent of St. Etienne. The 32-year-old Sweden native Jonas Rathsman releases ‘Since I Don’t Have You’ as his third solo single on the label, following the buzzworthy ‘Tobago.’ Combining disco and classic house styles, it’s clear Rathsman’s style is meant to get your feet moving and head bobbing. Aside from his music and production, Rathsman is also a graphic designer and partner behind sustainable fashion line Uniforms For The Dedicated. Impressive resume!

Chris Malinchak is a New York City-based artist that has been gathering an ever-growing house music fan base over the past year. Following his latest EP, Ironbound, Chris Malinchak has released quite a few tracks. His latest, “So Good to Me,” was recently highlighted by Pete Tong as an essential tune of the week on his popular Radio One show and it’s not hard to imagine why. Malinchak has perfected the dreamy disco/house sound, and we look forward to checking it out live next month.

Moon Boots, the alter ego of Peter Dougherty, is a Chicago-based artist that is also heavily influenced by R&B and underground disco, as evidenced by his recent releases,’Running From,‘ and his remix of Alison Valentine’s ‘Peanut Butter.‘ ‘Sugar,’ his latest track, follows in suit with its sample of Janet Jackson’s 90′s hit, ‘If.’ We had an absolute blast when we heard Moon Boots last July and have no doubt he’ll bring the house down in Brooklyn.

In addition the tracks above we’ve also included mixtapes by each artist, to give you a better idea of what to expect at Brooklyn Bowl.

*Special thanks to our friends at Hard Candy Music, for the Moon Boots mixtape.

Chris Malinchak @Santos Party House, 6.28.12

Chris Malinchak is a New York City based artist that has been gathering an ever-growing house music fan base over the past year. However, his live appearances are quite rare. Needless to say, we are very excited to learn that the French Express family member will be performing at Santos Party House this upcoming Thursday, a lucky treat indeed.

Following his latest EP, Ironbound, which we showcased recently here on OXD, Chris Malinchak is preparing to roll out more great work. Just this past week the Perseus’ owned label has teased us with a preview of his new track, ‘These Dreams,’ featuring vocals by Damon C. Scott. The track sounds classy and refined, just as we expected.

Also earlier this month, Chris Malinchak shared an one-hour long set that should be an indicator of what we will be hearing this Thursday. We’ll see you on the dancefloor.

‘Ironbound’ by Chris Malinchak

Another member of the French Express family (home of Perseus and Moonboots,) NYC-based Chris Malinchak has just released his third EP. Ironbound features 5 songs, including the tropical-flavored ‘Fuego,’ which debuted on The Magician’s Magic Tape 22. Another stunning track, ‘Razor 2.0,’ made its way right into our list of this year’s favorites, with beats and synths that resemble the old days of house music. It’s hard not to think of the iconic Inner City anthem Big Fun when listening to this one—and how great is that. Stream the EP below and enjoy.

Perseus: ‘Love in Zanzibar’

We have been following up with Perseus since his fantastic “Summer of 83″ remix for Jeremy Glenn’s ‘New Life‘ and so far every track he releases has been a gem. In little time, Perseus managed to establish a very particular tropical-flavored house music style that we fell in love with right away. His work mixes up steel drums melodies, slower beats and sample vocals by R&B artists such as Ashanti and Mary J. Blige— the latter featured on Perseus’ newest track, ‘Love in Zanzibar.’

If you’re like us and also can’t get enough of Perseus with just one track, don’t worry: you’re in good hands. His label French Express gave away a free EP last December with 3 tracks that are still available right here. Go for it.
