As an early holiday gift, Cameo Gallery is bringing us a double-header with DJ prodigies Joakim and Jacques Renault. We have been fans of both artists for some time and have not had the chance to see either spin live, so this should be a real treat.
Joakim is a French native with a background in classical music, who inadvertently discovered electronic music when a friend left a synthesizer in his room on campus at university. He played around with jazz samples, post-punk and disco to create his signature sounds. With a few albums of his own under his belt, including his most recent Nothing Gold, Joakim also has an extensive remixography of his own. He’s worked with artists like Goldfrapp, Fischerspooner, Cut Copy, Tiga and Friendly Fires, to name a few. Joakim’s diverse musical background and appreciation for such a broad array of music translates to noteworthy and dynamic live DJ sets – something we can’t wait to hear live.
NYC nightlife staple Jacques Renault has made a splash in the downtown dance scene over the past 10 years, with residencies at famed venues like Happy Endings, APT, Tribeca Grand and 205 Club. Whether it’s planning dance parties of his own, remixing tracks from artists like Midnight Magic and Ladyhawke, or producing original tracks of his own (for the likes of DFA records and Future Classic), Renault certainly has kept busy in his tenure in New York. We especially love his remix of Midnight Magic’s ‘Beam Me Up’, which was featured on Future Disco Vol. 4: Neon Nights and brought the band international acclaim. With a disco sensibility and love for dancing, we are sure Renault will turn it out along with Joakim for an unforgettable night.
