Paradisco has showcased many talented DJs whose names are familiar to a large portion of our audience, mostly through their residencies at revered parties in the NYC underground gay scene. Although our next guest may not be as quite known amongst the gays (apart from the ones who are music savvy), he is beyond huge in the global house music scene and will take our beloved Sunday tea dance to an even higher level. To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, we invited the one and only Tim Sweeney to take over the decks and have us dancing the afternoon away with his edgy, ground-breaking house music style. RSVP on Facebook and spread the word to your music-loving friends.
Tim Sweeney is the man behind Beats In Space, one of the world’s most famous and respected dance music radio shows, which airs every Tuesday on WNYU 89.1 FM in NYC. Over the course of 10 years of BIS, Sweeney has featured the majority of DJs and producers we admire at OXD, including Todd Terje, Lindstrøm, The Juan Maclean, Holy Ghost!, Joakim, Horse Meat Disco, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Prins Thomas, to name a few. With so many key figures making appearances on his show, BIS has become a trend-setting stage for the newest and best dance music currently being produced in the world.
Since 2009, Beats In Space has ventured in the record label business and put out releases by the likes of Tensnake, Paradis and other up and coming artists. The most recent of these is the brand new LP by Secret Circuit, entitled Tactile Galactics.
In addition to his extensive career, Sweeney was part of the DFA Records family through the early 2000’s and toured alongside LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and Pat Mahoney. Sweeney also created compilations for the label which included Compilation #2 (2004), the DFA Holiday Mix 2005, and A DFA Compilation for the Chanel Mobile Art New York Party (2008). Sweeney has even scored music for games, like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, as well as produced original tracks of his own and scratched records for Hercules & Love Affair.
Needless to say, we look forward to featuring one of the biggest and most important names in house music in NYC (and the world) at Paradisco. Don’t miss our exclusive interview with Tim Sweeney in our Spotlight feature.
